KARC held it's Annual Banquet on January 10, 2009 at Harding's Restaurant in Mink Shoals . Along with good fellowship and food, the 2009 officers were officially installed. No one left empty handed as gifts were handed out to everyone. There were not many (if any) empty seats, a good turnout! A somber and moving announcement as the silent keys were read aloud by Ann Rinehart KA8ZGY. Many heart-felt thank you's and mentions of appreciation and jobs well done to and by those leaving office.
A plaque was presented to President Joe Richards WV8WVU by President Bob Adams W8GU as a token of the club's esteem. And Steve Stone KC8MDV was awarded for his actions during the Rattlesnake 50k when he responded to a Mayday call by WV8WVU and was able to phone patch to 911 which probably saved two lives. Steve demonstrated the actions and ability of what emergency communications can do when done well. Good job Steve! |

As we think of ways to serve the Ham community, I want to remind us to think of how we each heard about Ham radio and got started in this hobby. Mine was when I was seven years old. I was watching a nature show on WCHS. The episode was about a prisoner of war during the Vietnam war who was blinking his eyes in morse code to send his location to his superiors in the US. He said that he learned morse code through Ham radio. That caused me to get interested in Ham radio at that age. However, it took me until I was 33 years old to follow through and get my Technician ticket and a 2m Alinco mobile. I hope this will make us remember that children are our future in Ham radio. 73 Tim N8UHG |
